Description

The ‘Glass Graining Technique,’ suitable for artists that choose to draw on the second most beautiful surface on the planet, is based upon the printmaking seed of ‘Stone Lithography.’  It utilizes the identical surface as the beautiful Bavarian Limestone, except it uses a 3/16 inch thick glass, which is light-weight in comparison to the heavy, cumbersome lithographic stone.  Grained glass is capable of capturing fine details and a large tonal range. The double exposure technique is recommended.  Its unique surface texture is compatible with a variety of drawing/painting materials including 8046 stabilo pencils, charcoal, lithographic crayons, tusche, markers, etc. Marks can also be removed through erasing, scratching, and other abrasive techniques.
The glass is reusable by graining the surface with carborundum or silicon carbide powder. To do this, place the glass face up and flat on the non-slip surface; wet the surface of the glass with water; distribute an optimal amount of carborundum on top of the glass; and place the second piece of glass facedown. Proceed by abrading the two pieces of glass together in a figure eight motion under the weight of your hands. Rinse glass under warm water and allow to dry vertically.

Approximate measurements: 4.5 x 4
